The Estrie region’s economy has been in a constant state of transformation for years. This trend can partly be explained by the establishment of institutions such as the Université de Sherbrooke and the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CHUS), as well as the emergence of research centres and high-tech firms. Regional prosperity is increasingly based on modernization.

Nonetheless, the Estrie region’s economy is still based on the production of goods, given that manufacturing sectors such as the manufacture of rubber and plastic products and wood processing still generate the highest number of jobs. Construction and trade are also key sectors in the Estrie region.
