The trend in Québec towards population concentration and urbanization affects the Estrie region, two-thirds of whose population lives in urban areas. The region has a favourable migration profile, especially internationally, because of the integration and retention models that have been implemented. Furthermore, the Estrie region is one of the regions in Québec that receives the largest number of immigrants.

From a linguistic perspective, the original, largely francophone, population is nonetheless primarily bilingual, mainly because of the proximity of the U.S. market. In the present-day context, this proficiency in French and English is a considerable asset for the region.
